Cool Factor: Slipcovers and sofa are still available in IKEA across the glove. Easy to maintain with easy to remove slipcovers. Highly modular and can be grown and configured in many ways.
Ugh Factor: Few slipcover options available on IKEA, assembly can be a bit confusing especially at the very first step – the rotating bar can be rotated, but a lot of force is needed.

Our Review
The IKEA Soderhamn is a unique yet stylish sofa design. Its thin armrests give it an extra modern and contemporary feel, however the armrest isn’t something you’d want to put your hand or head on. If you want something a little more softer, adding a few extra pillows around the arms would be a great suggestion.
Still, it’s a yes from us! One of the many plus points is that you can always build your own custom sofa set with the modular Soderhamn. Whether to fit in the corner of your living room or as a grand sectional couch sitting in the center, just purchase a few sectional components and it’ll look great.

Hi, I was very interested in purchasing the Soderhamn Sofa with the armrests. I like the look of both with and without the armrests. I was wondering if the armrests were removable. Thank you for your time.

Hi Ralph,
The Soderhamn armrests are sold separately and can be removed/attached to the frame, however in order to attach it to the frame you need to pierce holes (in the frame cover) for the bolts to connect to the frame. This means that if you choose to attach the armrest first, and remove them later, those small holes might be visible. Hope that clears things up!

Hi ! How high is the sofa from the floor to the end of the hard part of the seat ? Are the parts of the cushions that go over the hard part of the seat counted in the 83 cm height ? Many thanks!
by Felicia
Hi Erika
The measurement we have for the front of the seat frame (when the seat cushion is removed) to the floor is 31cm, but you might want to check on your own sofa or at the local Ikea showroom too. The 83cm height is the overall height, including the height of the back cushions when placed on the sofa itself. Hope this helps!

Hi,
I’m thinking of purchasing a used Soderhamn but was wondering if anyone has tried washing the cushions or if they are even washable. I plan to take them to a laundry mat where they offer large industrial washers but curious if this might leave them lumpy afterwards. Should I wash them or should I not risk it?
by Felicia
Hi Ana
The Soderhamn back cushions are indeed filled with polyfill, so you might want to speak to a professional about what can be done instead of machine washing it. Otherwise, you can try putting them outdoors on a sunny day then fluff them up.

I bought my sectional couch from Ikea, I would like to buy new cushions inserts but Ikea does not sell them. Do you sell them or can you direct me in the right direction.
Thanks
by Felicia
Hi Jacquelyn!
We only make slipcovers for now, but we wrote another blogpost about where to get replacement cushions: https://www.comfort-works.com/news/where-to-get-replacement-cushion-foam-inserts/
Hope this helps!

Hey Karen
You might need to use a larger sized clamp instead. Hope this helps!
