Launched in 2008, The IKEA Karlstad are one of the longer running sofa series besides Klippan, Ektorp, Stockholm and Poang. Models include 2 seater, armchair, 3 seater, corner sofa, chaise longue and footstool.
As of 2015, the sofa has been partially discontinued in the US (replaced by the Landskrona) and only the 3-seater Karlstad remains for sale. The Karlstad is however still available in all of its configurations in many parts of the world.

Our Review.
Retro looking and very minimalist of a sofa from IKEA introduced in 2008 to replace the Karlanda range – the Karlstad can be made even more Scandinavian with custom vintage legs, tufted cushions, or by giving it a long skirt. It truly is the ideal sofa for DIY hacking.

forgot to also say that the arm part of the couch is also broken, sorry.
by Chuck
No worries Jonathan,
Do you mean buy just the arm and legs from IKEA? I don’t think they sell the arm part separately, but the legs can easily be replaced as I believe they use the M8 bolt for both the Karlstad and Landskrona.
Personally I’d swap the couch out entirely if the structure of the sofa has been compromised though.
Hope this helps!

Will a Karlstad cover from Comfort Works fit a Landskrona sofa? I have this one http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/spr/89031705/.
by Chuck
Hey Minh!
A Karlstad long-skirt cover could potentially fit the Landskrona as it doesn’t require disassembling the sofa before putting the slipcover on. If you’re after the original Karlstad slipcovers from IKEA then I’m afraid it wouldn’t work quite as easy.
Lastly if you have a design preference as to how the slipcover should function and/or look for your Landskrona – we can always customise it for you 🙂
Prices will start around US$349 in our 100% cotton Gaia fabrics for this custom job; but once again a Karlstad long-skirt slipcover could work well if it’s a design you already fancy. Check them out here: https://comfort-works.com/products/karlstad-3-seater-sofa-cover
Hope this helps!

Hello Minh,
I have a 3+2 Karlstad and moved to a house where the LVR is too small for the 3+2… I ‘d like to separate the sectional and add new arms to the ends that were attached to the corner pieces. In all you Karlstad reaserch have you come across any info on 1) where to get new arms or 2) how to build some?
Thanks a million!

Did you ever get an answer as I am in the same boat right now.
by Chuck
Hey Julia!
I just replied V, basically along the lines of trying to find a secondhand armchair from Craigslist or Gumtree so you can combine the spare parts at a cheap price.
Apart from that I don’t think having arms custom-built would be affordable so the alternative I can think of would be to leave one of the sections as a standalone without arms even.
Hope this helps!

Hi V,
As long as I’ve been in the industry I haven’t come across people building new arms for the Karlstad but it’s very possible to scour the internet e.g. Gumtree, Craigslist for another secondhand Karlstad armchair, loveseat or 3-seat sofa just to get the arms.
Alternatively you could consider not having armrests for one of the sections altogether so it looks more like a bench than a sofa?
Hope this helps!

I’ve had a karlstad sofa bed for 5yrs which has been great but now the bottom part will, only pull out a few centimetres then hits the main frame – don’t know how this happened or how to fix it – any ideas welcome!
Thanks

Hi I am in a real bind. My dog peed on the corner seat cushion of my Karlsbad sectional. Unfortunately it soaked into the actual insert. I can find the cushion covers everywhere but mine just needed to be laundered. I need the ACTUAL replacement cushion.
He also ruined the back cushion of the 2 cushion part (the smaller size) of the sectional so I also need to find the insert for that as well. My cover for it is fine.
Please help.

Hi Suzanne,
Oh no, it’s so unfortunate when these things happen. Don’t worry though we have complied a list of a few online stores where you can order some replacement custom cushion inserts.
You can check out the online stores here: https://www.comfort-works.com/news/where-to-get-replacement-cushion-foam-inserts/
Hope this helps!
