What is nano-coating and how it works

Nano-coating has been a game changer, especially within the textile industry.

As we continue to discover ways to make things last longer, we should also practice good habits that help with it. That seemingly innocent spill, and leftover crumbs under the seat cushions can make your sofa home to some less-than-pleasant stains and odors.

Here’s a look at what nano-coating really is, how it works and what it means for your Comfort Works slipcover.

What is nano-coating?

Within the textile industry, nano-coating generally refers to the process of applying a film that repels substances like water, dirt and oils.

How it works

Picture the primer you use on walls: the undercoat goes on before the paint so that the color lasts longer and acts as an additional layer of protection before it is painted.

Nano-coating goes over the fabric for liquid resistance

We apply the nano-coating and fill in the gaps within the weave. It essentially sits on the surface of the fabric, causing any liquids to glide right off. This makes nano-coated fabrics resistant to most spills and stains.

Are your fabrics coated for fire resistance?

We do not label any of our fabrics fire-safe or coat them with any substances, with the exception of our Performance Weave collection.

What nano-coating is at Comfort Works

The nano-coating present in our Performance Weave protects your sofa against even the most persistent of stains. Soda, wine, ice cream, pizza, you name it.

Our nano-coating is a thin polymer film that goes over the fabric’s weave: think along the lines of Scotchguard protectant.

Don’t worry – it is not all harmful to the skin. All of our fabrics go through all the necessary lab tests, as well as testing with people in their homes.

As most liquid-resistant fabrics in the market are coated with the same substances, we always suggest ordering fabric samples so that you can try the fabrics out for yourself.

Wrap-up

If you still have any doubts about all the buzz around chemicals, you could always go with our fabrics certified by OEKO-TEX standards. We’ve tested these fabrics for harmful substances and are harmless for human health.

This is a safe option should you or anyone in the family have a history of skin sensitivities. Our fabric collections come in many earthy, neutral shades that can go with just about any living room style.
