These IKEA hacks will help clear out your bedroom clutter

Living in a cluttered home can have some profound long-term effects on your lifestyle and wellbeing, so if you’re trying to sleep in it?

It’s probably not helping you get the Zzzzzs you need.

If you’re sick and tired on feeling like you’re walking on a landmine whenever you walk into your bedroom, and just don’t much space to move at all (thanks to piles of stuff everywhere you turn), read on.

Here are 8 simple (and ingenious) ways to help clear out your cluttered bedroom once and for all:

1. Curtain Hooks Make Great Wardrobe Organizers

Who knew?

Never underestimate what a couple of shower curtain rings can do for your wardrobe.

Hook a couple of shower curtain rings to a clothes hanger and voila! You end up with a hanger that can hold multiple scarves, belts, caps, and even jewellery.

Hang one of these up in your wardrobe and never worry about tangled scarves or misplaced belts ever again.

2. Bookshelves As Headboards? Yep

Not ready to throw out your stuff just yet? No problem.

One easy way to declutter your bedroom without getting rid of anything is to add more storage, and our favourite is this hack that basically combines IKEA’s Billy and Brimnes bookcases to create a bed-bridge storage system.

3. Get Seats With Storage

If creating more space in your bedroom is just a matter of organising your items and keeping them out of sight, getting an ottoman or a couple of footstools with storage will do the trick.

These come in a wide range of looks and styles, so all you have to do is pick the one that complements the look of your room the best, and get organising.

4. Use Pegboards As Wall Organizers

Pegboards don’t just belong in the tool shed.

IKEA hackers have been taking to using pegboards as an affordable way to organize their bedrooms by using them to store things like their bags, jewellery, watches and photo frames.

A pegboard is the perfect choice since it lets you do all this and more, thanks to its ability to hold up shelves, baskets, and just about anything you can hang on a wall.

5. Multitask With Tension Rods & Hooks

Tension rods can come in handy when you want to utilize more of your space for storage, especially if you have a tiny nook in your bedroom that you don’t know what to do with.

With just a couple of tension rods and some S-hooks, you can turn your bare wall into a display for your jewellery or and other everyday accessories.

6. Make Space Under Your Bed

We’ve spent quite a bit of time talking about creating more storage space on your walls, which means it’s time to move on….to your bed.

Specifically the space under it.

It’s quite common to have a couple of things stored underneath your bed, but not all beds are tall enough to offer you the opportunity to do that.

With the use of bed risers, which basically act as leg extenders for your bed, you effectively increase the height of your bed and create more space underneath it for storage.

Some bed risers even come with a built-in power outlet for added functionality, although they’re not always the prettiest.

If you think bed risers would do your space some good but are not a fan of how they look, just cover them up with a bed skirt to keep them out of sight.

7. You Can’t Go Wrong With Baskets

When it comes to stashing your stuff in a hurry so that they don’t trip you up in the middle of the night on the way to the loo, nothing beats a good old fashioned basket.

Just pick a colour, style and size that’ll complement the look of your room, and be sure ask your bedroom companion to make regular use of it too if you want your decluttered room to stay that way.

8. Think Out Of The Kitchen

For the smaller objects that constantly end up being misplaced, like your keys, wallet and rings, you may want to simplify how you store them with pretty trays, cups and bowls that you’d otherwise use in the kitchen.

Even better, keeping them contained in a serving tray will keep them within sight and you, less likely to lose them.

As long as you’re keeping your space clear and putting your belongings in their designated spaces, you’ll be able to maintain an organized and decluttered room, fuss-free.
