IKEA Sakarias dining chair review – just nice or too small?

Is the IKEA Sakarias dining chair worth buying? Here’s our take on it to help you decide whether the IKEA Sakarias belongs in your dining room.

Firstly, let’s talk about the assembly. Just like other IKEA dining chairs such as the Harry, Henriksdal, Nils and Bergmund, the Sakarias is also another easy installation – an Allen key is all you need for tools, but an extra pair of hands, tiny or big, could be of help.

When you plop down on the seat, you’ll feel how bouncy it is, making it ideal for long hours of sitting. This is because there’s a lot of padding in it and a zig-zag spring base like those found in sofas. What improves the whole sitting experience is the lumbar support that offers long periods of comfort way past dinner.

Due to the design of the chair, people with a wider frame may find the seat confining and tight. We’d recommend going to the store to try it out before deciding to purchase them in sets of 4 or 6 for your dining space. The armrests of the Sakarias are at an ideal height where you can place your arms in a relaxed manner.

If you’d like to slide the IKEA Sakarias beneath the dining table when it’s not in use, then the space between the floor and the bottom of the table has to be more than 70cm. This is because that’s where the highest point of the armrest is – the part that connects to the back of the chair.

IKEA US offers the Sakarias in 3 colours: Inseros White, Kvillfors (blue patterned fabric) and Sporda Dark Gray. As the chair covers are removable and washable, it’s relatively easy to maintain the cleanliness of the Sakarias dining chair.

Priced at USD185, it isn’t exactly as affordable as other dining chairs from IKEA. However, with materials such as a solid hardwood chair frame and sinuous spring bottom in its seat cushion, there is value in this piece of furniture.
