Launched in 2008, The IKEA Karlstad are one of the longer running sofa series besides Klippan, Ektorp, Stockholm and Poang. Models include 2 seater, armchair, 3 seater, corner sofa, chaise longue and footstool.

Our Review.

Retro looking and very minimalist of a sofa from IKEA introduced in 2008 to replace the Karlanda range – the Karlstad can be made even more Scandinavian with custom vintage legs, tufted cushions, or by giving it a long skirt. It truly is the ideal sofa for DIY hacking.

Hi, we cannot fit our Karlstad corner sofa into our new living room so we want to turn it into two separate sofas.

Do you know if the Karlstad Armchair arms fit the sofa?

    Thanks

      Hey Jessica,

As far as we know, they should as it makes economic sense in terms of manufacturing (and of course, the measurements match up on our end)

      Hope this helps 🙂

    Hi!

Is there a way to replace the cushions on the karlstad? We love this couch and have definitely used it so much its starting to sink, a lot. My back is starting to hurt because it has gotten so low and I’m not ready to buy a new one just yet.

    Thanks in advance!
    N

      Hi there N,

A quick fix for this would be to leave the cushion inserts out in the sun to help them de-compress.

Hope this alleviates your cushion issues.

      Have a great 2019!

I just found a used Karlstad Corner Sofa/Sectional for sale locally for $660 (it’s 3/2 or 2/3?…not sure how to say it??). That price seems quite high, especially since it wasn’t likely more than $999 when new, and was discontinued in 2015 so is at least 4 years old. It’s in nice condition, but any ideas what a fair price would be? It’s the one without the skirt and is the greyish/blue woven fabric.

I am also interested in current pricing for a used Karlstad Corner sofa, I am interested in purchasing, but wish to pay a fair market price.

Hi, we hav the 3×2 corner sofa. Is it possible to swap the 3 and the 2? We just moved and the long end is on an inconvenient side in our new living room.

      Hi Christy,

Yes, the pieces can be interchanged.

      Hope this helps!

Hi, what is the closest fabric to the isunda gray that Ikea had? What type of fabric is the closest to the original even if the colors are different?

      Hey Gizem,

From what I remember the Isunda Gray is a very unique patterned fabric and if you’re after something similar it’s best you head down to IKEA to check the fabrics in person. We find it quite tricky to compare colours online.

On our side as a slipcover maker, the closest fabric to the Isunda grey we have is the Nomad Grey. You can check out our fabric samples here: https://comfort-works.com/pages/fabric-samples

Definitely do order some and get alternatives if you’re trying to get a slipcover for your couch 🙂

      Hope this helps!

Thanks Chuck, that helps! I will order some samples before I decide. One more question; we have a dog (golden), and the current fabric holds the hair (hair sticks on it) which I dont like (difficult to clean). what type of fabric you think would be best for cleaning dog hair? 🙂 thank you in advance!

          No worries Gizem,

Comes down to fabric testing really, we’ve had a case before where a customer mentioned the Kino was good for it but few months down the line another customer mentioned it was NOT good for fur.

Based on what you’re describing, I think it might be static electricity that’s causing the sticky fur but I don’t know for sure. I personally use the velvet slipcovers which seem to come off alright when I use a lint roller to get my cats’ fur off. Generally I would thus recommend velvet (Rouge) and the Madison fabrics due to their tighter weaves.

          Hope this helps!
