Our Review.
The Friheten was introduced after the discontinuation of its predecessor, the Manstad. While the Friheten functions similarly to the Manstad sofa bed and has a storage compartment under its chaise, it now allows you to change the sofa bed’s configuration by assembling the chaise on the left or right side of the sofa.
The “armrest” on the sofa seat side is also level with as the seats, allowing taller people to stretch their legs more easily without feeling squished up. One of the only downsides to this really budget-friendly sofa bed is that it comes upholstered, which makes cleaning cumbersome.
Thankfully, we have found a way to slipcover the Friheten in its entirety so you can customize it how you like and leave the cleaning for the washing machine. Design your own Friheten sofa bed slipcover today!

How do you clean the original fabric? I have the beige sofa and find even water stains the fabric. As the fabric on the seats has already stretched I am worried cleaning will stretch it out more.
Thx

Hey Barb,
As we’re not IKEA we won’t be a 100% sure on how different cleaning methods would work on their fabrics, it’s best to ask them directly. As per their website though, this is the care guide made publicly available:
Care instructions
Do not wash.
Do not bleach.
Do not tumble dry.
Do not iron.
Do not dryclean.
Frame
Vacuum clean.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Personally I’d try lemon juice and baking soda, but do always remember to test all your solutions out at an inconspicuous area firstly to see if it leaves any further water stains.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has tried this lemon juice / baking soda method? I have the orange version. I have tried to clean many times: gently washing with hot water; really scrubbing with hot water; using a bit of oxy-clean; using baking soda… etc.
I only succeeded once, when I used water filtered by my Brita, boiled and then rubbed into the couch. Now, I don’t have the Brita filter any more and I tried again with water, but it left stains which I think are coming from my use of baking soda in the past.
So I guess my main question would be – doesn’t the baking soda proposed in this plan leave residue? Has anyone had any luck with this?
Also – I am wondering about cleaning the zip-off cushion covers as a previous commentor mentioned. They say they are completely unwashable… Has anyone had luck washing them, and how so?

Hi I’ve had a FRIHETEN sofa bed for about 2 years and with having children it’s gradually got covered in stains and water rings. I’ve tried everything to clean it but it just looks as bad when finished. I have no problem cleaning the cushion covers as they come off but the rest is a nightmare! Do you have any solutions and if not do you make covers for the sofa?
Many thanks
by Chuck
Sure we do Zoe!
Stains are a bit harder to fix but we’ll generally try baking soda and lemon juice in an inconspicuous place for a start, then work our way into the stains. If those can’t be salvaged, slipcovers for the Friheten corner sofa bed can be purchased here: http://comfort-works.com/en/friheten-sofa-covers-115
Hope this helps!

Hi Chuck,
I need to replace the back cushion covers for my Friheten, but unfortunately, I can’t find anything online about the dimensions! I was hoping the Vallentuna replacement covers they sell in store (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10336200/) would be close enough in size, but I can’t figure out any way to confirm or disconfirm that.
by Chuck
Hey Ryan!
The Vallentuna covers are fairly slim if I’m not wrong, so I don’t think they would work perfectly.
If you like though, we could always custom make them for you – just that the fabrics we have may not match IKEA’s original colour/texture.

Does anyone know of a way to increase the height of the shorter arm?

Any idea the dimensions of the disassembled sofa? I’m buying an Friheten second-hand and I’m trying to figure out if it would fit in my CRV once I disassemble. Thank you!
