Our Review

The IKEA Soderhamn is a unique yet stylish sofa design. Its thin armrests give it an extra modern and contemporary feel, however the armrest isn’t something you’d want to put your hand or head on. If you want something a little more softer, adding a few extra pillows around the arms would be a great suggestion.

Still, it’s a yes from us! One of the many plus points is that you can always build your own custom sofa set with the modular Soderhamn. Whether to fit in the corner of your living room or as a grand sectional couch sitting in the center, just purchase a few sectional components and it’ll look great.

Do you have leather covers or leather like covers for soderhamn sofa?

Hi! Your second photo shows wooden legs, which are not available from IKEA. Is that a one-off hack, or do you sell alternate legs for various sofas too?

I have a year old Soderhamn sectional chair in dark grey. I was abroad, rented the place, and someone ran off with the back pillow. Ikea, with all the hype about “making your OWN choices” won’t sell me another back pillow–I would have to buy the whole chair, which I have no room for.

I would appreciate any advice you might have.
    Thanks, Kiren

      Hey Kiren,

Sounds quite awful that someone would run away with the back pillow 🙁

Nonetheless, there are always solutions to these kinda things – you can actually get the back pillow custom made either at a local upholsterer or online. With local upholsterers you can show them what you want and they’ll try their best to replicate it for you.

Online, it’ll be a bit of DIY but it’s less of a hassle – you’ll just need to measure the pillow and provide the dimensions to the online retailer (such as Cushion Xpress). After that, it’s just a matter of getting a slipcover for it in which you firstly would need to try IKEA and if they still can’t help – let us know, we’ll try and fabric match for you 🙂

      Hope this helps!

      Hey Gillian!

We used the 150mm version as we aren’t very tall 🙂

      Hope this helps!

Thanks so much! How tall are the legs that originally come with the Soderhamn?

          Hey Gillian,

          They’re roughly 15cm 🙂

          Hope that helps!

    Hello all.

After much deliberation, I ended up purchasing a Soderhamn armchair with the armrests. I find it pretty comfortable and like the fact that it’s wider than a traditional armchair.

Today, I ordered a set of black leather covers so it will match my sofas. I was wondering if you order a complete set (chair and armrests), will the armrest mount holes be located and pre-punctured. I found that the IKEA supplied cover was a challenge to pierce accurately so I imagine that the leather one will be more so…

I’m concerned now about the durability of bycast leather after reading a ton of negative reviews. My armchair is used daily and from what I read, the bycast leather won’t last the year before it needs to be replaced.

      Hi John,

Thanks for your message – we actually make our covers in the same way as IKEA so unfortunately yes, you’ll be required to pierce it through (we can’t pre-puncture it as the holes’ position may not be exact with ours) so it’s best that you do it on your end.

With the bycast leather, we’ve only had a handful of complaints where the bycast leather didn’t last a year and we had replaced them for free if they had been using the covers normally. Either way, should there be any issues just let us know immediately and we’d be happy to have it replaced for you under our 2-year warranty 🙂

      Hope this helps!
