Our Review

The IKEA Soderhamn is a unique yet stylish sofa design. Its thin armrests give it an extra modern and contemporary feel, however the armrest isn’t something you’d want to put your hand or head on. If you want something a little more softer, adding a few extra pillows around the arms would be a great suggestion.

Still, it’s a yes from us! One of the many plus points is that you can always build your own custom sofa set with the modular Soderhamn. Whether to fit in the corner of your living room or as a grand sectional couch sitting in the center, just purchase a few sectional components and it’ll look great.

    Hi,
My couch came and the bottom seat cushions are super uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do to make this better? I really don’t like sitting on it at the moment. I have a soderhamn chair and the bottom cushion is comfortable. So I’m thinking that there is something wrong with cushions I ended up getting. Maybe I can add additional cushions or plump them up with something?
    Thanks,
    Rachel

      Hey Rachel, thanks for sharing!

Typically, we’d recommend getting some foam inserts made to replace the seat cushions you have. Of course, you’ll have to make them to the exact measurements of your current cushions so that they will fit into the cushion covers perfectly.

If you’re in the States, we do know some friends of ours who may be able to help you out 🙂 Check out their website here; https://ucprivatecourses.com/ref/comfortworks/

They essentially customize foam of any size and shape, so you can order online at the convenience of your own home. If you’re outside of the States, we’d then recommend sourcing for a local upholsterer/tailor who may be able to help you.

Another option would be to look for foam inserts online (eg. Amazon).

Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes, we hope it works out for you.

hi – I am trying to order one online and it seems they only one with a chaiselong to one side on the left. How can I have one on the right? Can the be modified when mounting it? Thank you.:)

Hey Mareole, thanks for asking 🙂

The Soderhamn covers we have on our website will fit either side, as you will have to disassemble your sofa to remove its existing covers and install ours. Afterwards, you will have to re-assemble the sofa again. You may follow the IKEA Soderhamn disassembly manuals in this blog post to do this – and grab a partner or a buddy to do this with you!

If you want to switch your chaise to either side, all you’ll have to do is follow the manual and attach them to whichever side you want.

Hope this helps – let us know how it goes!

Hi – Is it possible to turn the corner section into the three sided arm chair? I previously had the corner section and just ordered an arm rest thinking I could just attach it, but I don’t think the corner section has additional pre-drilled holes for the bolts to attach another armrest. Thanks!

      Hey June,

The corner-section actually has different sized arms/backrests than the regular sofa/chair components. If you want to turn the corner section into a chair, you’ll have to source for a corner-section backrest or arm, specifically.

    Hi,

If I order the Soderham 3 seater without armrests, can I add them at a later stage or do I need to order the whole unit so there are the correct assembly holes and fittings? Also, if I do add them and decide to remove them again is this possible or will I need to order a new slip cover as there would be holes in the sides where it has been fitted?

    Thanks 🙂

      Hi again, Louise!

Yes, there will be assembly holes in the covers once you’ve used them (you’ll actually have to DIY-puncture these holes).

We sell the covers as sets for each component, which you find here; https://comfort-works.com/en-ca/soderhamn-136/

      Good luck! x

Hi, How easy is it to remove, wash, replace the slip cover, do you have any videos of this?

      Hey Louise,

You’ll have to disassemble the sofa in order to remove the covers. You may do so by following the assembly manuals (linked in the article) in reverse. It would only require a screw driver, and maybe a couple of allen keys 🙂
